Rising boxing star Micki “Battling” Nielsen undergoes surgery to fix hand problems

Micki “Battling” Nielsen underwent surgery last week, as his hand injury, couldn’t stand the pressure from being back in the ring again.

He broke his hand in his last fight, when he stopped Atilla Szatmari in the first round, just like he stopped his two other opponents in the first round.

The “Battling” Nielsen, who is now 3-0-3 KO, misses his next scheduled fight in Parken 19-05 but promises a strong return after a summer break.

“It would have been nice to fight in Parken, however time is on my side and there will be plenty of opportunities to fight in Parken later on.” “Who knows, next time it might even be my brother, who is fighting for the world title in Parken and then I have to fight on the undercard.”

“We are trying to set up a summercamp in either the US or UK, so i will return in great shape, the plan is to gain musclemass and get ripped.” Says Micki Nielsen

***Nielsen to fight in PARKEN on May 19***

Rising middleweight star Patrick Nielsen (14-0, 8 KOs) will return to the ring at PARKEN on May 19, facing Gaetano Nespro (19-8-1, 3 KOs) on the undercard of the WBC Light Heavyweight World Championship (Silver) clash between Mikkel Kessler and Allan Green. The 21-year-old Dane comes off a dramatic tenth-round KO victory over Gaston Vega at the Nordic Fight Night in Frederikshavn. As the newly-crowned WBA Intercontinental Middleweight Champion, the future is bright for him. “It was great to win the title and knock out Vega,” Nielsen said. “I will continue where I left it when I step into the ring at PARKEN in front of my home fans. I am already very excited about May 19. Nespro is an experienced guy who has been in the ring with a lot of good fighters. But everybody who wants to beat me will get punished.”

Nielsen´s last fight in Copenhagen – a flash KO over Jozsef Matolcsi in February – took only 11 seconds. “On the one hand it was great to beat him so quickly but on the other hand I would have loved to give my fans a longer fight,” he stated. “Let´s see what the fight with Nespro will be like.”

Also in action will be Patrick´s brother Micki Nielsen (3-0, 3 KOs), former Danish amateur star Torben Keller (3-0, 1 KO), Swedish light heavyweight talent Erik Skoglund (9-0, 5 KOs), Polish KO machine Mateusz Masternak (26-0, 20 KOs) and Norwegian newcomer Simeen Smaadal, who will take on opponents to be announced shortly. “May 19 is going to be an historic night,” promoter Nisse Sauerland said. “Kessler versus Green at light heavyweight, Patrick seeking his 15th victory, an exciting undercard featuring the very best of Nordic boxing plus public viewing of the Champions League final on giant TV screens. This is as good as it gets for sports fans.”

Tickets for the big night are available at www.billetlugen.dk. Viasat will offer the Kessler-Green clash as pay-per-view to all DTH customers. Viasat partners Yousee and Stofa will offer it via cable tv, while TDC will offer it on IPTV. Furthermore, the fight will be available on Viaplay via pay-per-view. On May 19, Viasat will build up to the fight on TV3+, showing the undercard action and presenting special guests. The main event will only be available via pay-per-view (499 DKK).

***Nielsen keen to beat Abraham, win WBA Intercontinental Middleweight Title at a younger age***

Patrick Nielsen (13-0, 7 KOs) plans to take another giant stride towards a world title fight when he faces Argentinian Gaston Vega (17-4, 6 KOs) at the Nordic Fight Night in Frederikshavn.

A victory on April 21 would make Nielsen the WBA Intercontinental Middleweight Champion at the age of just 21. He could follow the path of former IBF Middleweight World Champion and Team Sauerland stablemate Arthur Abraham, who was 24 when he won the same belt Nielsen is chasing next week.

“This is a big fight for me,” Nielsen said. “I am excited to fight for such a huge title.

Abraham´s career really took off after winning that belt, so it would be great if I could do the same. I am ready to give Vega a beating!”

Back in September 2004, Abraham made his name known in the boxing world when he knocked out Nader Hamdan to become WBA Intercontinental Middleweight Champion. He moved on to win the World Title the next year and dominated his weight class for years. “We take a high risk by letting Patrick fight for the Intercontinental Title at such an early age,” promoter Nisse Sauerland said. “But we believe in him. We think he is ready for the big stage. This is the ultimate test, the ultimate stepping stone. A victory over Vega will pave the way to the top.”

Together with his coach Karsten Rower, Nielsen has been training in Berlin. “Things are going very well,” he said. “I have a lot of energy. I really want that title and I will get it!”

“I have been training with my physical trainer and physiotherapist Peter Willen, who also treated my hand along the way, and it looks like the healing process went really well.”

“Now I need to regain my full strength before I start the sparring again and then it’s up to my trainer to decide when I can fight again” Micki Said.

Patrick udtaler;

“Min bror og jeg har ikke holdt nogen fødselsdag, så det er rart med lidt familie hygge allesammen. Jeg skal dog stadig træne i dag, så jeg er 100% klar til min “VM-kamp” d. 21 April i frederikshavn”

Micki udtaler;

“Jeg har været hjemme et stykke tid da min hånd har været i gips, men nu er den kommet af igen, så jeg tager med min bror til Berlin på søndag igen. Det er bare at nyde det når man har mulighed for at se familien, for i Berlin er der ingen kære mor”
